Seu Jorge & Almaz – Everybody Loves the Sunshine

Holy Shit! As if there weren’t enough reasons to love singer & actor Seu Jorge… he’s just released a version of the Roy Ayers classic Everybody Loves The Sunshine ! Recorded with Brazilian super group Almaz, featuring members of Nação Zumbi along with City of God composer António Pinto (see an exclusive Cultural Cannibals interview with Pinto here) and produced by Beastie Boys collaborator Mario C., this 12″ single will be released June 27 on Stones Throw records Now Again imprint. This release will coincide with a 16 date North American tour for Jorge and Almaz (good news for us Midwesterners, the tour will stop in Chicago Aug. 3, more info here). Don’t overlook the B-side, a soulful interpretation of Martinho da Vila’s classic samba Ciranda.

Have a listen and check out Stones Throw here for the download.

Originally released on Roy Ayers 1976 album of the same name, Everybody Loves the Sunshine became an instant soul classic. In 1977 RAMP (Roy Ayers Music Project) recorded what many consider the definitive version if the song. Since then, a slew of singers, samplers and remixers have taken their turn at interpreting this perennial summertime jam. From Erykah Badu to D’angelo, here are some of the best takes on Everybody Loves the Sunshine:
